In 2003, we removed the aging 1980 33 hp
Universal diesel and re-powered SP with a 1983 44 hp (model 5444)
Universal diesel sporting only 600 hours. The newer engine was purchased
from a friend who had re-powered his Pedrick 41with a larger engine.
The 5444 coupled up with the existing Hurth transmission and muffler
system. It also slid right onto the existing stringers and bolted
into the existing mounting holes. Though a relative simple swap
on the surface, like everything else "boat" there were
some unexpected requirements along with new components and a long
overdue overhaul of the engine compartment itself.
