DesignerPeter D. Canning

The Mariner 28 was designed for one purpose---cruising pleasure. During the five-plus years of production, Peter Canning’s original design has been strengthened and refined, a seaworthy and practical boat, it is the perfect blend of state-of-the-act materials and technology with solid boatbuilding experience of people who know sailing. The materials, gear and quality of construction are the industry’s finest. The tolerances are exact, the craftsmanship is superb and the finish impeccable.

Aloft, the Mariner 28 is ruggedly functional. The rig is race bred, clean and solid. The spars are sourced by Schaefer Marine, mast, awlgrip-coated for low maintenance, has internal wire-to-rope halyards for both main and genoa and airfoil spreaders. The boom is equipped with an internal topping lift and clew outhaul. The powerful high-aspect-ratio sail plan is well balanced by the foil-shaped fin keel (available in both deep and shoal draft). The rudder is placed well aft to give the wheel steering a predictable helm. A sharp entry provides excellent windward performance while the water planes and powerful sections give stability off the wind and speed over bottom.

The spacious cabin has large berths (sixth optional), a private head with vanity, a modern aft galley with gimbaled three-burner stove and oven, and a huge fold-down table. Storage space abounds. Ventilation and light are provided by eight screened opening ports and a large forward hatch to balance the warm, cozy feeling of the hand-built, all teak interior. The Mariner 28 stands alone for performance and lasting value.
